Family Ministry Father’s Day Event: Kids Under Construction
For Father’s Day, we wanted to host an event that was special because the whole family could participate. We also wanted to give dads a chance to bond with their children in a very hands-on way.
If order to make this happen, we brought in all kinds of work vehicles, such as bulldozers and dump trucks, to our church parking lot. Children and their fathers climbed all over the vehicles. Then they worked on makeshift playhouses with real hammers and nails. Afterward, we talked about how we can build a strong foundation with God. (This is a great time to talk about the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders.)
The children loved their special time with Dad and playing with grown-up tools. They also enjoyed seeing the results of their work on the playhouses. Children left this father’s day event feeling accomplished and dads left joyful at the time they had with their children.
