Find more great Sunday school lessons to help kids grow in their faith. 1. Walking on Water Set up a walking path made of bricks or books from one side of the room to the other. Have kids walk across the path without touching the ground. Then remove the bricks or books from one end of the path and replace them with upside-down, empty tissue boxes. Ask kids if they think they can still walk across the path without falling or touching the ground. Have volunteers attempt to walk across the path. When they get to the tissue boxes, they’ll start to fall or squish the boxes. Be prepared to help kids so they don’t hurt themselves. After everyone has had a turn walking across the bricks and boxes, read aloud the story of the Apostle Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14:25-33. Ask: How did you feel when you first started to squish the boxes? How is that like how Peter might’ve felt when walking on the water? Why did Peter begin to sink? How can we increase our faith in Jesus? 2. Craft: Faith Reminder Give kids each small corks, toothpicks, and white first-aid tape. Have kids each create a floating faith reminder. Their creations can look however they want them to. Have kids write “Have faith” on their piece of tape and attach the tape to a toothpick to create a flag. Then have kids each connect corks and toothpicks and attach their flag to their creation. Challenge kids to ask God to help them grow in their faith when they look at their floating faith-reminders. 3. Snack: Apostle Peter “Rocks” You’ll need: 1 1/8 cups peanut butter, 3 1/4 cups powdered milk, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cup granola, spoons, and a large bowl. Read aloud Matthew 16:13-19. Then tell children to make Apostle Peter “rocks.” Have kids mix together the ingredients and shape the mixture into 1-inch rocks. As children eat, ask them to tell the meaning of their name if they know it. Allergy Alert: Some children have food allergies that can be dangerous. Know your children, and consult with parents about allergies their children may have.
