Children’s Ministry Devotion: Anointed Ones
Have the children sit while you read the Scripture aloud.
Say: God wanted to choose someone special to be the king. God looked at all the people in the land and chose David, a shepherd. David was so busy taking care of the sheep that the people had to go look for him. When they found David, Samuel anointed him with olive oil.
Put a few drops of olive oil or vegetable oil in your hand. Let each child touch the oil and rub it between his or her fingers. Provide napkins for the children to wipe their hands. Ask:
- What would it feel like to be anointed?
- How do you think David felt when Samuel anointed him to show he would be the next king?
- God told Samuel to anoint David to show that David was to be the next king. What do you think God might want you to do with your life?
- How do you think God will show you what he has chosen you to do?
Say: God has a job for each one of us to do. David’s job was to be the King of Israel. He worked hard to be a good king. We can each do our best to do a good job at whatever God chooses us to do.
