Joyful Jumble Snack Mix: Fruit of the Spirit

This joyful snack mix is the perfect add-on for when you’re teaching on the fruit of the Spirit. Kids enjoy a tasty treat as they explore the joy Jesus gives us.

You’ll need:

  • Bible
  • jellybeans
  • plain Cheerios (avoid any with nuts)
  • raisins
  • banana chips
  • pretzels
  • grapes
  • plastic bowls
  • plastic spoons
  • small, resealable plastic bags

Allergy Alert!

It’s always a good idea to check with parents about allergies before giving snacks to the children. You can substitute any snack items that work for your group rather than the ones suggested above.

Joyful Jumble Snack Mix

Say: When our hearts overflow with the joy Jesus gives us, we want to share that joy with others. Let’s share a snack and talk about how we can share the joy of Jesus.

Let the children create their own snack mix from these ingredients: joyful jellybeans, cheery (happy) Cheerios, rejoicing raisins, beaming banana chips, pleased pretzels, and glad grapes. Form groups of six (or the number of ingredients you decide to use). Give each member of the group a small bowl of one of the ingredients, a plastic spoon, and a small, resealable bag.

Have the first child complete this message: “Jesus gives me joy. I can share that joy by [examples: sharing my toys, smiling at others, hugging a friend, saying a kind word].” When the child completes the sentence, have that child place one scoop from his or her bowl into each child’s plastic bag, including his or her own.

After each child has had a turn, read 1 Thessalonians 5:16: “Always be joyful.”

Have children repeat the verse after you. Give thanks for the good snack, ask God to help you share Jesus’ joy with others, and then eat!

Play this “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” music video as you enjoy the snack!
