Family Talk Time: A Daily Lent Activity for Families
Do you want to help families draw closer to Jesus and each other this Easter season? Are you looking for a family Lent activity that doesn’t just add another thing to do, but intentionally helps families invite Jesus into their everyday conversations?
Well, we’re here to help! Simply pass along this Lent activity to families at your church. You’ll be sharing 40+ days of Jesus-centered family conversations and fun.
Lent prepares us for Easter! It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends the Saturday before Easter Sunday. That’s a little over 40 days!
During Lent, we think about how much Jesus gave up for us. Though he was God, Jesus became human. Jesus gave up his life so we can be freed from the power of sin and death. (Jesus’ friend, Paul, explains this more in Philippians 2:5-11. Check it out!)
We remember Jesus’ sacrifice, and we choose to give up things, too. Some people choose to fast during Lent. That means they give up things like food, TV, or video games and choose to spend that time thinking and talking about Jesus instead. It’s a little way for us to sacrifice something for Jesus to show our love and gratitude.
We’ve collected family talk starter questions from our Simply Loved curriculum. They’ll help kids and families spend intentional time with Jesus and each other. As they lead these discussions, parents and caregivers don’t need to be Bible experts—just Jesus’ friends who are willing to talk about Jesus with their children. Additionally, questions allow kids to tell their grown-ups about their own growing friendship with Jesus!
