Children’s Ministry Christmas Craft: Potpourri Ornaments
Say: Choose an object to create an ornament. Spread glue all over one side of your object. Press both ends of a piece of ribbon into the glue to form a loop. Cover the glue-covered side of your object with potpourri. Then allow everything to dry.
As kids are wrapping up their crafts and setting them out to dry, draw their attention to the smell of the potpourri.
Ask:
- How does your potpourri ornament smell?
- What are some different things you can smell in it?
Say: That remind me of something the Bible tells us.
Read aloud the first sentence of 2 Corinthians 2:15.
- What could it mean that we are a “fragrance of Christ”?
Say: Fragrances tell our brains “this smells like…oranges, or cinnamon, or Christmastime!”
Ask:
- What’s a favorite fragrance you enjoy and what does it smell like?
Say: If we have a fragrance of Christ Jesus, that’s a way of saying we’re like him. Or there’s something about us that shows people we’re friends with Jesus—or that we’re like him.
Ask:
- How can we be very fragrant for Jesus at school? at home? when we’re playing with friends?
Say: Hang your ornament at home to remind you that Jesus wants us to be like him.
Close in prayer asking Jesus to guide the kids in all the ways they can show others his love and be like him.
