3 Activities to Try in Your Church Nursery This Summer
Nursery Activity 1: God Made Me Flowers
Help toddlers create this delightful craft that celebrates God’s handiwork in summertime.
You’ll need:
- brightly colored mini cupcake liners
- sheets of paper
- glue
- green and other colors of tempera paint
- wet wipes
Help each toddler make a green handprint in the center of the paper. Allow it to dry, then glue a cupcake liner on each fingertip to create flowers on their stems. Then let children dip their fingertips in paint and dab color inside each cupcake liner.
As the flowers dry, say: God made everything we see. God made you, and God made me. Thank you, God!
Nursery Activity 2: How to Be Kind
Remind toddlers that God wants them to be kind, and use this song as a cue for kind behavior. Sing it to the tune of “The Muffin Man,” and use it often enough that toddlers become familiar with the words and remember to gently pat each other on the back as you sing.
Oh, do you know how to be kind,
How to be kind, how to be kind?
Oh, do you know how to be kind,
The way God wants you to?
Oh, yes, I know how to be kind,
How to be kind, how to be kind.
Oh, yes, I know how to be kind,
The way God wants me to.
Nursery Activity 3: Baby Bins
Create simple themed bins for babies who are able to sit on their own as you talk about different parts of the Bible, such as Noah’s ark or Creation.
You’ll need:
- plastic bins
- baby-appropriate items that fit inside each bin
Sort the items according to theme, such as fluffy stuffed animals for the ark or plastic trees, fish, or people as you talk about Creation.
Place a bin of items in front of a baby on the floor. As the baby explores, point out the names of different items as the child touches them. Make comments like, “God made people” and “God created the world” as the baby plays.
Wipe off the items between services, and return them to their bins for the next use.
