Quick, No-Supply Activity: On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!
In this quick, no-supply activity, kids consider how God hears our prayers as they play a game based on timing.
This game helps kids explore Luke 1:5-25, 57-66 with the Bible story: God hears Zechariah’s prayer.
No-Supply Activity: On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!
Say: God hears our prayers, so we trust his timing. Zechariah and his wife had waited a long time for a baby, and they thought it was too late. But God’s timing was perfect to bring John into the world at just the right time to help lead people to Jesus.
Let’s play a game where you’ll have to listen carefully and wait on my timing.
- Have kids line up along one wall, with a clear path to race to the opposite wall.
- Explain that kids will wait for you to say “Go” and then race across the room. If they run too early, they’ll be out for that round.
- Say, “On your mark, get set, golf balls!” Any kids who ran will be out. Continue with other silly words before finally saying “Go!” Examples include goats, goldfish, gong, grow, glow, and gurgle.
- Once you’ve said “Go,” and kids have raced, invite everyone back in and play another round.
- Vary how many silly things you say before you say “Go” each round. For one round, you might throw them off by saying “Go” on the first try!
- Let the game keep going as long as needed to fill time until parents begin to arrive.
