Kid’s Valentine’s Day Outreach Idea: Love Your Neighbor Day
In Matthew 22, Jesus tells his disciples, “Love your neighbor.” February is the perfect time for kids in your ministry to show your church neighbors the love of Jesus through acts of kindness. Here is how one children’s minister uses this holiday as the perfect opportunity for outreach.
Kid’s Valentine’s Day Outreach Idea: Love Your Neighbor Day
Read Matthew 22:37-39 from a kid-friendly Bible (like this one). Ask:
- Who are some people that Jesus might be referring to when he talks about our neighbors?
- What are some ways you can love your neighbors like yourself?
- How does the second greatest commandment (loving your neighbor) relate to the first (loving God)?
Show God’s Love to Your Neighbors
Have kids form groups and each come up with a creative way to show love for their neighbors. These people could be across the street from your church or around the block. Here are some ideas to get you and your kids started:
- deliver a basket of heart-shaped cookies
- shovel driveways anonymously
- leave a bouquet of flowers at someone’s door
These are just some of the ways kids can show Jesus’ love on the weekend before Valentine’s Day. Encourage kids to continue the wave of kindness. Offer ideas to team up with their family members to show kindness to their neighbors at home as well. You never know the year-round relationships that you can form!
