Have an antsy room of preschoolers? Try using these three indoor preschool games that will help your preschoolers get the wiggles out.
3 Indoor Preschool Games to Help Get the Wiggles Out
Preschool Game #1: Beach Ball Bash
This energetic game lets preschoolers practice their gross motor skills and gets out some of their wiggles.
You’ll need:
- a beach ball
- music player
- play area
Have preschoolers spread out. Play music, and have children practice hitting, tossing, and throwing the beach ball to one another. Then randomly stop the music. When the music stops, have the child holding the beach ball sing, dance, or do something silly.
After all preschoolers have gotten a chance to be the one with the beach ball, wrap up the game. Explain that it’s a good thing for us to have fun at church and that we can look forward to seeing each other every week.
Preschool Game #2: Beanbag Buddies
Use this game to encourage preschoolers to connect as friends.
You’ll need:
Have children sit in a circle. Give one child a beanbag, and tell the child to say his or her name before saying “is a friend.” The child then gently tosses the beanbag to another child in the circle, who says his or her name before saying “is a friend” and tossing the beanbag to another child. For example, if Steven gets the beanbag first, he says, “Steven is a friend” and tosses it to Janie, who says, “Janie is a friend” before tossing it to another child.
After playing so everyone gets a turn, say: We are all good friends. And now we’re going to say that the other children here are friends, too.
Play the game again, but have the child holding the beanbag say the name of the person he or she tosses the beanbag to instead of saying his or her own name. For example, if Steven gets the beanbag first, he says, “Janie is a friend” before tossing the beanbag to her. Ensure all children get the beanbag and have their names said as a friend.
After the game, say: God is happy when we’re all good friends.
Preschool Game #3: Brave Soldier Gideon
Teach your preschoolers about Gideon’s army with this fun action rhyme based on Judges 7:2: “The Lord said to Gideon, ‘You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength.’ ”
There was a big, brave man (arms high and wide)
A soldier, Gideon, (salute)
He had an army strong, (show muscles)
Of many thousand men. (circle arms from group to self)
The men marched up the hill. (touch your knees, waist, shoulders, head)
Then they marched down again. (touch head, shoulders, waist, knees)
But God told Gideon, “You have too many men. (wave pointer finger back and forth)
Let some go home again.” The men marched up the hill. (touch your knees, waist, shoulders, head)
Then they marched down again. (touch head, shoulders, waist, knees)
They went to get a drink, (cup hand, bring to mouth)
But then, what do you think? (shrug shoulders)
God said, “Gideon, Send more men home again. (point thumb back over shoulder)
The battle you will win!” (raise arms over head triumphantly)
