Easter Devotion: My Sins Are Washed Away
Give each child a paper towel, and have kids write or draw several wrong choices people make on their paper towels. Ideas include saying unkind things, lying, or being mean. Younger kids can just make marks on the paper towels to represent wrong things.
Say: Sin causes us to make wrong choices that hurt our friendships with other people and with God. Jesus died on the cross to forgive sin. When Jesus died, his friends and family thought the story ended there with his death. Write the word death on top of all your sins. Younger kids can just scribble all over their marks.
Give each child a cup with a small amount of dish soap and some lukewarm water. Have kids place the cup on top of a plastic bag to catch any drips. Then have them place their paper towels into the cups and swirl them around as you read 1 Corinthians 15:54-57.
Say: But Jesus’ story didn’t end with sin and death. He won! Lift your paper towels out of the water and see what happened to the sin and death. Allow time for kids to see that their paper towels have come completely clean.
Ask:
- How does this experience remind you of Jesus’ forgiveness?
- What’s one thing you can tell others that Easter means to you?
Say: At Easter, we know that Jesus died for our sins so we can be forgiven. And we celebrate Jesus’ winning over death because we know he beat our sins once and for all. And best of all, he wants us to live with him in heaven forever.
