Preschool Sunday School Lesson: David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
1. Bible Activity: Ring Around Boy David
Have the children hold hands in a circle with one child in the center as “David.” Lead kids in singing the following verse to the tune of “Ring Around the Rosie”: Ring around boy David; The giant tried to scare him; David prayed, threw his stone, and Goliath fell down!
Have children fall down at the end. Then have David pick a new David. Continue playing until children tire of the game. Then tell them the story of David and Goliath from 1 Samuel 17.
2. Craft: Stones of Faith
Give each child a piece of card stock the size of a light-switch cover and five paper circles that can fit on the card stock. Cut a small rectangle in the card stock to fit over a light switch. Tell kids the paper circles represent David’s stones. Give kids glue, glitter, sequins, and yarn to decorate their stones. Then have them glue their stones to the card stock. Explain how to tape the light-switch cover over their bedroom light switch.
Remind kids that when they turn off the light, God watches over and protects them just as he protected David.
3. Snack
You’ll need:
- pop rock candy or rock candy
Give kids the candy as a reminder of the rock that David threw to kill Goliath. Close in prayer with children taking turns to ask God to help him or her overcome a personal giant or problem.
