Simple Craft: Making Magnets from Recycled Milk Caps

Looking for a simple craft that can be customized to fit many lessons? Try recycling plastic milk bottle caps into refrigerator magnets for this quick craft! This is also the perfect craft to accompany an Earth Day lesson!

You’ll need:

  • Plastic milk caps;
  • scissors;
  • glue or tape;
  • magnets; and
  • paper, newspaper, magazines, stickers, construction paper, markers, or photos of the kids

Have children apply stickers to the inside of the cap. Or cut out pictures from magazines or real pictures of the children to fit inside the milk bottle caps. You can make these magnets for fun, or have children create magnets that tie into the lesson or theme for the day. Once children have finished decorating, help them glue a magnet to the back of their bottle cap.

Children will enjoy taking these milk cap magnet crafts home and attaching them to their refrigerator doors or lockers.

Extra tip: Glue different-color circles of construction paper to the tops of bottle caps for game-board playing pieces.
