Thanksgiving Snack: Mini Thanksgiving

In this Thanksgiving snack activity, kids learn how they can show thankfulness by giving back to God.

You’ll need:

  • Bible (Psalm 136:1-2)
  • paper plates
  • rolled-up sandwich turkey slices
  • Ritz crackers
  • Craisins dried fruit
  • popcorn
  • potato chips
  • bread
  • celery
  • apple slices

Prep

Before kids arrive, cut bread into smaller squares. Set out all the food.

The Experience

Have kids wash their hands. Say: There are some Thanksgiving foods that are a tradition.

Ask: What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Say: Some people are so into Thanksgiving food that they call the holiday “Turkey Day” instead! But we know that the name Thanksgiving shows what the holiday is really about: giving thanks. Read Psalm 136:1-2.

Say: We’re going to have a mini Thanksgiving dinner. Rather than carved turkey, we’ve got rolled-up sandwich turkey. For stuffing, we’ve got bread squares. Popcorn will be our corn, celery our green veggies, and our potatoes will be in chip form. We’ve also got crackers for rolls and Craisins dried fruit rather than cranberry sauce. We’ll finish it off with some apple slices, to remind us of good ol’ apple pie. Hand out plates, and let kids choose from the buffet of mini Thanksgiving snacks.

Have kids sit in a circle. As kids eat their snacks, go around the circle as many times as possible and have kids share one thing they’re thankful for.

Close with this prayer: Dear God, you’ve given us so much. Our Thanksgiving snack celebrates all that you’ve given us. We want to give our thanks back to you. Please help us remember to always say thank you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
