Labor Day Elementary Classroom Activity: All Dressed Up
Use Colossians 3:23-24 to talk about how God values the work that we do. This elementary children’s ministry activity is a fun addition to your Labor Day celebration.
Labor Day Activity: All Dressed Up
You’ll need:
- construction paper
- markers
- tape
- child-safe scissors
Invite each elementary child in your class to make something out of paper that shows what either parent’s occupation is. For example, for a construction worker parent a child could sculpt and wear a paper hard hat. To represent an accountant, a child could make a paper calculator. For a nurse, a wearable paper stethoscope. Welcome kids’ creativity!
Take a moment to explain what Labor Day is and why we celebrate the holiday. Then, one at a time, have children show their creations and explain what their parents do. After everyone’s had a turn, lead a prayer of thanks to God for his faithful provision through the children’s parents’ jobs and caregiving efforts. Ask God to help parents serve him well in their jobs.
Take time to celebrate the variety of jobs among parents (including stay-at-home parents) and help each child realize that all jobs are important!
