Family Sunday: Great Ways to Help Families Befriend and Feel Friended
Help families develop a sense of belonging by facilitating ways to meet and get to know each other through Family Sundays!
How well do the families in your church know one another? Specifically, the ones in your children’s ministry?
Perhaps some parents and caregivers come, drop off their kids, and then head into the worship service without ever making a connection with another family. To help families in your church connect with one another, start “Family Sundays” once a quarter—or more often! A Family Sunday is a designated time when you create experiences for families to get to know each other. It’s a great way for people to develop a sense of belonging within your church.
Fill out the form below to get a FREE download with a simple idea to use for your first Family Sunday. Then, simply choose a Sunday and follow the tips and instructions included. Because many churches have expressed a desire to reach more families with younger children, this activity is centered around families with kids in children’s ministry. However, you could easily make this available to everyone in your congregation!
The Basic Idea
How do people become friends naturally? Many times, it starts when they find something in common. So the idea in this download is designed to help families connect using common interests. You’ll select four activities many families enjoy doing together as the catalyst for starting conversation and building friendships. To get you started, we’ve suggested four activities. However, we realize that common interests in one part of the country may look different than in another part of the country. So adjust topics as necessary for your corner of the world!
In this download, we’ve chosen four family-friendly activities that we know families in our area enjoy doing together:
- Games
- Camping
- Cooking
- Travel
You’ll set up one station for each topic. Then, families will choose a station or two to visit. There they’ll find a snack and several icebreaker questions to help them start conversations with other families at that station.
