Elementary Sunday School Lesson: Avoiding Family Feuds

Part #1: Bible Activity—No Family Feuds
You’ll Need:
Lead the Bible Activity
Form two teams. Have teams each list the top 10 ways a family can get along, according to Ephesians 4.
After teams have completed their lists, collect the lists. Then have teams take turns guessing the answers that were on both lists. Afterward, discuss how easy or difficult it is to get along with family members and how the listed ways can help them get along better.
Part #2: Craft—A Peaceful Target
You’ll Need:
- red and white construction paper
- scissors
- glue sticks
- markers
- magnets (1 per kid)
Make Peaceful Targets
Have kids design a “peaceful target.” First, have kids cut construction paper into graduating circles—each circle slightly larger than the last. Then have kids glue the circles together with the largest on the bottom of the stack and the smallest on the top of the stack. The stacked paper circles will look like a target. Have kids write the words “Peaceful Home” in the center of the target. Tell children to hang their targets on their refrigerator.
Give each child a magnet to mark how close their family is to God’s aim: a peaceful home.
Part #3: Snack
You’ll Need:
- fortune cookies
- slips of paper
- pencils
- resealable plastic bags
Make Notes for Family Members
Have kids write each family member’s name and an encouraging note on a slip of paper. For example, kids may write, “Mom, thanks for making such good meals for me.” Help younger children write their notes.
Insert each of the slips into a different fortune cookie—one to give to each family member. Then have kids put their cookies in a resealable plastic bag to take home. Let kids eat the leftover cookies.
Bonus Idea for All Ages
Get families together for a family appreciation dessert get-together. Children can make and serve a simple dessert such as brownie sundaes or decorated cakes. Kids can present handmade awards and tell why they love each family member.
