Preschool Children’s Message: We’re All Special to God
Hold up the mirror so only you can look into it.
Say: I’m looking at a picture of someone God says is very special. Would you like to see the picture? I’ll show you! But let’s wait until everyone’s had a chance to look before we call out who we see. Hold the mirror up to each child so only one child can see into it at a time.
Ask:
- Who did you see in the mirror?
- Tell about a few things that make you, you. Share a few external and internal characteristics of your own first, such as your eye color or hair texture and having a kind heart.
Say: The person you saw in the picture isn’t exactly like other people. Repeat some of the differing characteristics you heard from preschoolers (“Some of us have long hair, and some short. Some of us have kind hearts, and some of us have brave hearts.”). No matter how you look or who you are inside, God thinks you’re special.
Ask:
- How can we show others they’re special, even if they’re different from us?
Say: This week, we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. He was a great man who helped people realize how wrong it is to dislike someone because of the way that person looks.
In the Bible, God said that what makes us special is what’s inside, not how we look on the outside. Listen to this!
Read 1 Samuel 16:7.
Say: Let’s thank God for making all people special and unique and for loving us just as we are. Close in prayer.
