Elementary Craft Idea: Bubble Buddies

Today, most kids have constant access to social media, where the temptation to compare themselves is constant. No wonder so many kids today struggle with anxiety. Children’s pastors (like you!) have a wonderful opportunity to direct kids’ focus to their mighty God who gives them peace. Use this craft to help elementary-age kids remember that they can give their worries to God because he cares for them.

Elementary Craft Idea: Bubble Buddies

You’ll Need:

  • 1/3 cup of liquid dish detergent
  • 5 cups of water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of glycerin or clear corn syrup
  • chenille wires
  • clean baby food jar with lids
  • mailing labels
  • empty pitcher
  • large wooden spoon
  • measuring cup
  • markers
  • tape

Make the Craft

Help kids mix the following bubble solution in a pitcher:

  • 1/3 cup of detergent,
  • 5 cups of water,
  • and 2 1/2 tablespoons of glycerin or clear corn syrup.

Give each child a baby food jar. Have kids fill their jars with bubble solution and place the lids on the jars.

Then, give each child a mailing label and a marker.

  • Help kids write “God cares for you (1 Peter 5:7)” on their labels.
  • Encourage kids to decorate the labels and put them on the jars.
  • Show kids how to bend a chenille wire into the shape of a bubble wand and blow a few bubbles.
  • Then have kids tape their wands to the side of the jars for safe keeping.

Talk About It

Discuss these questions with kids:

  • How can blowing bubbles help us see what it’s like to release our worries to God?
  • How might you feel when you trust God to take care of what you’re worried about?

Say: We all worry or feel afraid sometimes. We can talk with God when we’re feeling that way because he’s a powerful friend who cares. As we blow our bubbles again, let’s imagine those bubbles are worries we’re giving to God. Talk with God about anything you’re worried about out loud or in your head as you let bubbles, and worries, float away to God.

Allow time for kids to blow bubbles and pray.

Pray: God, thank you for loving us and hearing our prayers. Thank you for understanding our worries and fears, and for helping us through them. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
