Budgets are there for a good reason, but sometimes they can feel restraining (or maybe they’re even nonexistent!). You want to be able to purchase a certain resource for your ministry, but you’re out of money. Or you want to be able to give every child a Bible, but your budget just isn’t big enough. Or you want to find a way to support families at home, but you can’t seem to do what you really feel would be effective because your funds (or lack thereof) get in the way.
But what if there was a way to make your vision happen by unleashing the entire church to get involved? You have people in your congregation who are passionate about kids’ faith, and it’s not just your volunteers or parents and grandparents. Plenty of people want to see kids’ faith grow, but as you know, not everyone wants to or can get involved through volunteering. By giving them more opportunities to make a difference , you bless them, you bless your ministry, and you bless your kids!
So, how?
If you run fundraising campaigns, we have some creative ways to extend or rethink what you’re already doing by using gift registries and wish lists. Even if you don’t run fundraising campaigns, these ideas will help you start in creative and doable ways that tap into people’s desire to give!
If you feel like you’re always asking for more money, or if you’re hesitant to start asking, here are some important reminders…
It doesn’t hurt to ask! Sometimes donors will surprise you. There may be a specific need that someone personally relates to or is drawn to, and they want to be a part of the solution.
Some people can give more time, some people can give more donations, and some can do both! All are needed!
Always make sure there is the option to donate money when fundraising, even if you are more focused on collecting items. There are many donors who don’t have time to shop but will happily give you money to spend. And don’t be afraid to put some big numbers out there when you ask. A generous donor could surprise you.
Some donors like to know exactly where their money is going. They like to choose what they want to donate and sometimes even involve their kids and family in deciding what to get. This is where registries and wish lists can be helpful!
