Coloring is relaxing, fun, and satisfying–and it can be a great avenue for connection and discussion with kids. When kids are focused on a coloring page rather than a screen, they’re more likely to engage in conversation.

Coloring refocuses our attention, says clinical psychologist Scott M. Bea, PsyD. “[C]oloring requires modest attention focused outside of self-awareness,” Dr. Bea says. “It’s a simple activity that takes us outside ourselves in the same way cutting the lawn, knitting or taking a Sunday drive can all be relaxing.”

Simply download this coloring page and print copies for the child and you. Find a quiet, peaceful location, then add snacks and crayons or colored pencils. As you color, talk about the Scripture:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (Philippians 4:6)
