Superstar DJ-producer Anton Zaslavski, known as Zedd, has had 10 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 List, four of which made it to theTop 10 List. His song, “Stay,” featuring Alessia Cara was named fourth on theTop 10 Radio Songs Based on Audience in 2017, with an audience of more than 3 billion. He specializes in EDM (Electronic Dance Music), which is taking over the mainstream music scene, according to the Nielson Music 2017Year-End U.S. Music Report. Between that and Zedd’s partnership with top pop artists such as Ariana Grande Selena Gomez, Kesha, and Liam Payne, Zedd may have found the perfect combination needed for success in the music industry today.
EDM is dance-club music, but it’s not always inappropriate for preteens. After all, some worship music such as Elevation Worship’s “Praise Goes On” has an electronic dance sound. And Zedd’s songs such as “Stay” and “The Middle” don’t contain any inappropriate content. That said, because he partners with a variety of artists, it’s hard to predict what the content of his next song will be. For example, Hailee Steinfield’s “Starving” featuring Zedd is all about a sexual relationship, and the music video makes that clear. Use caution with his music, especially because YouTube is a likely place kids will listen to his music. Consider sticking with the Kidz Bop audio version if you plan to play Zedd’s music with the kids your church.
