Summer Mini-Camp

If you have children who are too young to attend summer camp or if your church doesn’t plan a summer camp, hold a Mini-Camp at your church. At our church, we began our Mini-Camps for children ages 4 to 6. We wanted them to get used to summer camp and not get homesick when attending future summer camps.

Our Mini-Camp begins on a Friday evening around 6 and ends at 2 p.m. Saturday with water fun — including sprinklers and wading pools. Kids choose whether they want to sleep in tents or in the designated girls “dorm” or boys “dorm,” which are Sunday school rooms. We have a camp theme, devotions, meals, snacks, games, awards or certificates for all campers, and camp T-shirts. Past themes include Run the Race, Strong in the Lord, and We’re on a Mission. Young teenagers help as counselors in training. Church members provide food, meal preparation, and cleanup. We charge each camper $15 to help defray costs of extra utility use, any food not donated, and T-shirts. Our kids look forward to this event each year.
