Here’s your latest Keeping Current App and Website review for May and June of 2018: Sarahah.
This free app allows users to anonymously send “feedback” to others. Creators of Sarahah intended to help people discover their strengths and weaknesses, but preteens often use it for different purposes. While users can potentially receive anonymous messages from any user, they aren’t able to respond to messages sent to them.
With millions of users worldwide, some are saying this app is a perfect environment for bullying. While this app isn’t the first one to allow anonymous (and often hateful) messages to be sent, it is one that’s being widely used in schools—even elementary schools. We recommend you make parents aware of the app and steer kids away from it. Protestors have created a petition to ban it; so if they’re successful, you may not need to worry.
