Genius Junior is an NBC game show hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. Child-geniuses (ages 8 to 12) compete in timed math, spelling, logic, and memorization challenges. These challenges aren’t the kind that most viewers will be able to keep up with, but it is one that’ll entertain and amaze because of the kids’ intellectual abilities. Each episode ends with a segment called the “Cortex,” which includes rapid-fire challenges. Despite the competitive element, the kids generally encourage one another and compliment each other when the opposing side succeeds.
This is a great game show for families to watch together. Viewers won’t be able to miss the celebration of intelligence, hard work, and perseverance in this game show. Elements of teamwork are easy to highlight, not to mention the positive model of a healthy competition. Plus, this show teaches how we can react with dignity when we lose. As preteens enter a period in life often riddled with uncertainty, this game show encourages them to use their talents in a positive way.
