Cydia refers to itself as the “jailbreak equivalent of the iOS app store”. Essentially, to get to this app store, you must break through the security chains written by Apple. This allows iPhone users to get apps that aren’t available in the Apple app store and customize their phones with these new apps. On an Android, Cydia Substrate allows users to get free software that would otherwise cost money on Google Play. It can also customize apps already on your Android device.
This app is becoming more popular and well-known among preteens. They might “jailbreak” their Apple devices. Then they can change the color of the icons, add previously unavailable apps to their phones, or add a repeat music button to the control center. What if your preteen uses it to watch ProTube HD, an app similar to YouTube, with fewer content restrictions? While Cydia is safer than its original version, even Cydia acknowledges that “you’re taking a chance on downloading malicious software”. When preteens can gain access to apps that adults don’t understand, it is always a big risk for kids.
