Thanksgiving Placemats

Children of all ages can make Thanksgiving placemats for their families and others in your church to enjoy and cherish.

Notify your Sunday school teachers to allow about 10 to 15 minutes during each class for several weeks before Thanksgiving for this activity.

Have your older elementary children research “Thanksgiving” Bible verses a few weeks before Thanksgiving. The kids can pick their favorites and print them out on a home computer, using different color inks and fonts.

Give the children large sheets of construction paper to make several place mats each-and let them use their imaginations! Have lots of Thanksgiving clip art and rubber stamps for kids to use. Use glue sticks to attach beautiful fall leaves, and of course, let kids make “turkey hands” to personalize their place mats. They can also use the Bible verses the older children researched. Have each child write his or her name, age, and date of Thanksgiving on each of his or her place mats.

This is a great time for kids to discuss God’s many gifts. Even 2- and 3-year-olds can express their thanks for food to eat, their parents, or a new puppy.

When the place mats are completed, laminate or cover them with clear Con-Tact paper. Take the children to visit adult Sunday school classes to deliver extra place mats for adults to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.
