More than 1 million people have used the 3D building app called Assemblr. Users can create settings, characters, and even stories that appear in real-life scenes. The app is free, but building materials cost virtual money, either earned in the app or purchased with real money. Users can post their creations publicly in the app, and users can comment on others’ creations. It’s rated E for everyone.
Our Take on Assemblr
When used with supervision, Assemblr provides an opportunity for kids to learn technological skills and while exercising their creative muscles. We suggest advising preteens about how to communicate with other users, as there’s always a danger for harmful communication. Also, because Assemblr uses augmented reality, parents will want to talk with their kids about awareness of their surroundings while using the app outside so they stay safe.
