Parents familiar with the Anne of Green Gables books and TV series are introducing their preteens to this family-friendly Netflix series about an enthusiastic and unique redheaded orphan. After plenty of support from viewers, Netflix produced a second season, released in July of 2018. Overall, it’s filled with positive role models and addresses common 19th-century issues in a heartwarming way.
While this show is wholesome in dealing with the least kid-friendly topics, there are some dark and scary aspects. Additionally, in the second season, Netflix takes some liberties by adding in LBGTQ characters and championing them for “following their hearts” and “loving who they love”. Anne With an “E” also touches on bullying, abuse, hunger, financial strain, and prejudice. We recommend parents prescreen the episodes and discuss how the viewpoints on the show do or don’t align with what the Bible says about the mature topics presented.
