Here’s your latest Keeping Current game review for July and August of 2018: A Hat in Time.
As the largest Kickstarter-funded indie 3D platformer, A Hat in Time features a little girl who’s looking for fuel for her spaceship while learning to understand people on Earth. She’s racing to beat others on the planet who are also collecting the fuel. When she finds badges, she stitches them to her hat to gain new powers, and she uses an umbrella to defeat her enemies. Players can play by themselves, or they can play on a local split-screen co-op or an online co-op. The game is rated E10+ for fantasy violence and alcohol and tobacco references. It’s available on PC, Mac, PS4, and Xbox One.
For millennial parents and children’s leaders looking to resurrect the 3D platformers, A Hat in Time is a hopeful addition to the modern-day 3D platformer repertoire. Overall, it’s clean and fun. Players say it has challenging gameplay, creative fights, a joyful and humor-filled storyline. Plus, at a reasonable price, it’s a great value for hours of gameplay options. It’s a nice choice for families looking to play games together. However, parents are encouraged to their kids when they encounter the Mafioso or references to alcohol or tobacco.
