I NEVER win anything, so not only was it a shock that I had won, but the way God orchestrated all the details to make this trip possible blew me away. I had been praying for some time for a way to get back overseas to serve in the mission field.
Visiting Haiti for the first time was an eye-opening experience. I was able to see firsthand what most of us see on the news; devastation and poverty are definitely part of people’s lives. But I was also introduced to another side of Haiti; the beauty of the people and landscape of this tropical island is breathtaking.
I saw how Rice Bowls partners with orphanages where people are passionate to bring up a generation of new leaders. They encourage children to see beyond their situations by teaching them a trade and showing them hope in Jesus Christ, just as a couple of examples. These homes support their local communities by buying local and reaching out to help their neighbors in need.
I am so grateful to have had this experience discovering Haiti and learning more about Rice Bowls’ mission to feed children in Haiti and around the world.
