5 Tips for Kids’ Worship with Christmas Music

Worship2As the great movie character Buddy the Elf says, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear."

Bob Singleton is president of God's Kids Worship; as a kids' worship ministry consultant. As a producer of music for kids, Bob has achieved great heights being a platinum-album, award-winning Grammy- and Dove-nominated producer of music for kids. In a previous article, he shared with us some advice when it comes to helping kids worship God. So to help your kids sing loud for all to hear this season, here are some words of advice from Bob.

1. Consider your culture. "Choose music that fits the worship style and theology of your church," says Bob. "Look for music with enough energy to match your kids' energy level…Select proven worship songs and energized hymns that fit the stage of development for kids in the room."

2. Keep it age-appropriate. "Whatever your church's worship style, expect kids to be kids, and use age-appropriate worship materials," says Bob.

3. Choose wisely. "Studies indicate that kids up to sixth grade prefer to sing along with kids' voices over adults," says Bob. "…it's easier to 'fit in' when they sing, and they're more likely to be in their vocal range."

4. Get resourceful.  "Kids' worship doesn't need to be a big, staged event with billowing smoke and flashing lights," says Bob. "A $30 DVD player and a donated television can turn any room into a worship center; whether it's a living room, a small room on a mission trip, or an auditorium."

5. Blessings in Return. "Lead your kids into worship. You don't need a lot-just good recordings that sing of spirit and truth," says Bob. "God doesn't require good voices, just happy hearts."
