Kids’ Sunday School Lesson: Jesus and Zacchaeus

Use this Sunday school lesson to teach kids about Jesus and Zacchaeus. Find more great Sunday school lessons to help kids grow in their faith.

Setting

For this Bible lesson about Zacchaeus, from brown poster board, cut out a 3-foot-tall tree trunk. Use a marker to draw vertical lines of bark. Tape the trunk to the wall. Then tape inflated green balloons to the top of the tree for leaves. Sit at the foot of the sycamore tree during the lesson.

I Can’t See

Form two groups. Have one group huddle together and look at something. Have the other group try to see what they’re looking at.

Afterward, read aloud Luke 19:1-10. Then discuss how Zacchaeus’ feelings compare with the children’s feelings who couldn’t see. Discuss how Jesus felt compassion for Zacchaeus and how he responded to Jesus’ love.

My Gift Craft

Give children each two felt squares. Have them staple together three sides of their squares to make moneybags. Using gold construction paper, have them make “coins,” and write on them what they would give Jesus if they had been Zacchaeus.

Snack

You’ll need:

  • breadsticks
  • marshmallows
  • pretzel sticks
  • gumdrops

Directions: Have children each poke a breadstick into a marshmallow, but not through it. Have them poke several pretzel sticks into the marshmallow. Then have them press gumdrops onto the ends of their pretzel sticks. They’ll have a Zacchaeus tree to enjoy eating.
