Valentine for God

Courtney hid behind her toy chest, surrounded by red paper,
crayons, glue and scissors. She was making a valentine for God as a
surprise to take to church.

“Courtney?” Courtney heard her mother calling her. She tried to
hide her valentine supplies.

“What’s going on?” Mom asked as she walked through the door.

When Courtney explained, her mom hugged her. “That’s a wonderful
idea,” she said. “But you’ve already given God a valentine.”

“Every time you sing a song to God or pray or do nice things for
people, you’re giving God a beautiful valentine,” she said.

Courtney smiled.

“God has given you a valentine too,” she said.

Courtney looked puzzled.

“Jesus is God’s valentine to you,” Mom explained.

Courtney thought for a moment. Then she said, “I bet he’s the
best valentine anybody ever gave.”

Her mom smiled and said, “I just bet you’re right.”
