Preteen Sunday School Message: Something New From Something Old

Use this preteen Sunday school message: New From Old with kids ages 10 to 12 to teach them how God changes us when we believe in Jesus.

What You’ll Need:

  • a Bible

Preteen Sunday School Message: Something New From Something Old

Say: As we start this new year, let’s think about how old things can become new.

Form two teams. Have teams race each other to shout out new uses for each of these objects:

  • old shoelace,
  • empty yogurt container,
  • broken vase,
  • old car tires,
  • empty water bottle,
  • incomplete deck of cards,
  • old magazines,
  • broken door,
  • broken crayons, and
  • tops of plastic bottles.

Read aloud 2 Corinthians 5:17-21.

Say: Jesus gives each of us a new purpose and changes us from something old into something new! Search these Scriptures to see if you can find new things that Jesus does in us. Look in verses 18, 20, and 21 to find a new thing in each verse.

Allow time for teams to find new things and then discuss with the entire group. Kids may find many things, but help them also see these:

  • the task of reconciling (verse 18),
  • Christ’s ambassadors (verse 20), and
  • made right with God (verse 21).
