Elementary Children’s Message: Singing Joyful Songs

Here’s a quick elementary children’s message that will reinforce the idea of singing joyful songs to the Lord, using Psalm 110:2.

You’ll need:

  • a Bible,
  • a CD of praise songs, and
  • a CD player.

Elementary Children’s Message: Singing Joyful Songs

Form pairs. Say: Sing a few lines of your favorite praise song for your partner. Then tell your partner why you like that song, and what it means to you.

Allow a few minutes for kids to describe their songs; then call everyone back together. Ask:

  • What do we sing about when we sing praise songs?
  • How do you feel when you sing a praise song by yourself? With other people?
  • Why is singing a good way to praise God?

Say: In Psalm 100:2, the Bible tells us: “Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Let’s say that together. Lead children in repeating the verse; then continue: God has given us so many good things. Singing joyful songs about God’s goodness is a great way to thank God for all the good things he’s given us. Let’s choose some joyful songs we can sing together now.

Play the CD you’ve brought and let kids vote on which songs they think are the most joyful. Sing the winning songs together as a class, or offer to lead another class in worship using the songs you’ve chosen. Recite the memory verse together in between each song. Then close your worship time by repeating the verse together.
