Bible Snack: Ice Cream in a Bag

Use this fun Bible snack to teach kids that all things come together for good—in a sweet ice cream treat that’s based on Romans 8:28.

Scripture: Romans 8:28

For each child, you’ll need:

  • 2 quart-size resealable bags,
  • 1 gallon-size resealable freezer bag, and
  • the following ingredients:
    • ½ cup milk,
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla,
    • 1 tablespoon sugar,
    • 4 cups crushed ice,
    • 4 tablespoons rock salt.

You’ll also need:

  • a Bible.

Give each child the supplies listed, and lead them in making their own ice cream. To make the ice cream, put the milk, sugar, and vanilla in a quart-size bag. Seal the bag tightly, pushing out as much air as possible. Place this bag inside the other quart-size bag and seal tightly without trapping air. Next, put the quart bags in the gallon bag and fill the empty space with the crushed ice. Sprinkle the salt on top. Seal the bag with no air and shake and knead it for about 8-10 minutes.

As kids eat, ask:

  • What surprised you about how this ice cream was made?
  • What’s something surprising God has done in your life?

Read aloud the Scripture.
