Preteen Bible Game: True Servants (John 13:3-5, 12-17)

This is a great Bible game to teach the preteens in your ministry how to be true servants using scripture found in John chapter 13.

Preteen Bible Game: True Servants (John 13:3-5, 12-17)

Have children sit in a circle of chairs. In the middle of the circle, set items such as…

  • a pencil
  • sheet of paper
  • string
  • roll of tape
  • empty cup
  • towel
  • glass of water
  • piece of candy

You’ll need one item for each child in the circle.

One at a time, have children each pick one item and use it in some way to serve someone else in the circle. Kids must pick an item that hasn’t been used. Make sure everyone is served once.

Afterward, read aloud John 13:3-5:Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.”

The read aloud  John 13:12-17: After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing?  You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.”

Ask:

  • How did you feel as you served other people?
  • How did it feel to be served?
  • Why did Jesus serve the disciples?
  • How can we serve other people this week?
