Preschool and Elementary Easter Activity: Easter Cross Garden

Your entire congregation will enjoy this surprise Easter cross garden from your preschool and elementary-aged children.

You’ll need:

  • Two wooden paint sticks per child,
  • hot glue gun (adult use only),
  • hot glue, and
  • permanent markers.

Preschool and Elementary Easter Activity: Easter Cross Garden

As children enter your worship area on Easter morning, give them each two wooden paint stirring sticks. (You can usually get collect these for free from a hardware store.) Direct the kids to an area where an adult will help them hot glue the two sticks to create a cross.

After telling the Easter story (or showing children this animated video), have each child use a permanent marker to write on their cross what it means to them that Jesus is alive.

Then take the kids out to your church’s front yard where they’ll press the crosses into the dirt to create a garden of crosses.

This is such a wonderful surprise gift to your congregation in remembrance of Christ’s resurrection.

  1. Your picture has large crosses. I am sure paint stirrers are not that big. I do like your idea for them to use the paint stirrer crosses to write on and keep, but think that size would get lost in a yard.

We’ve seen it done and it’s the mass of crosses that makes the impact.
