Preteens are becoming independent thinkers and doers.
Guide them during this step toward maturity with these
tips.
- Offer choices. Stop making all the decisions.
Let preteens help choose activities and topics for learning; this
gives them ownership in their faith development.
- Encourage. When kids have questions, encourage
them to dig for answers. Provide tools -- the Web, dictionaries --
and guide kids as needed.
- Support. Help preteens when they make poor
choices by being understanding and empathetic. Remind them Jesus
always loves them.
