Our church
hosted a blanket fashion show to raise money for Church World
Service's (CWS) Blanket Sunday program (churchworldservice.org).
Two weeks before the event, people signed on to participate in the
fashion show. They received a number for their place in line and a
card to submit the blanket model's name and a brief description of
why they chose that blanket to model. Families wrote stories about
their blanket's role in family traditions, how it had been passed
down as an heirloom, or that it was a special gift. These stories
about the blankets' importance in families' lives were the
highlight of the show.
At the end of the show, we had an actor raise his hand from the
audience and proclaim that he was cold and had no way to keep warm.
Then our kids invited him on stage to present him with a blanket.
We then talked about the reason for the evening-to raise money for
blankets. We collected a significant amount of money to purchase
blankets through CWS.
