glitter and two 2-inch sections of green chenille craft wire per

These cute caterpillar-to-butterfly crafts help kids understand the
transformation of Jesus’ resurrection.

Have kids each cut two 5X5-inch pieces of card stock. Stack the
card stock pieces, and then staple them on three sides to form a
pocket. Kids can cover both sides of their pockets with cotton
balls and glue to create a fuzzy cocoon.

While the glue dries, have kids decorate one popsicle stick to look
like a worm by gluing green pompoms along one side of the stick.

butterfly. Cut wings by folding a piece of card stock in half and
cutting a half-wing shape along the fold. Kids can decorate the
wings with crayons or glitter. Center and glue the wings to the
bare side of the popsicle stick. Glue on google eyes and green
chenille wire for antennae.

Read aloud the Scripture. Ask, “What happens to caterpillars when
they go to sleep inside their cocoons? Caterpillars become
beautiful butterflies and leave their cocoons behind, empty. How is
the story of Jesus’ empty tomb like or unlike the way caterpillars
leave behind their cocoons? How is Jesus’ resurrection like or
unlike the butterflies? Let’s thank God for making his son Jesus
the most beautiful butterfly of all.”

Theme: God is always with us
Scripture: John 7:33
Age Level: 10 to 12
Prep Time: Time to purchase cameras
Activity Time: One week
Materials: Disposable cameras, construction paper, card stock, and
a bulletin board.

Give preteens an assignment to complete over one week: Answer the
question, “Where is God?” Use this activity during Easter to help
kids understand that even though Jesus’ physical body is gone, he
is always with us.

Give each preteen a disposable camera. (For larger classes, you may
want to have kids work in pairs.) Have them look for places where
they see God and take a picture of each location or person. These
places could be a hospital room, a place on the couch, a friend, a
church, or anywhere they feel God’s presence.

Collect the cameras the following week and develop the film.
Then make a special Easter bulletin board to display the photos, or
have kids create their own “God Is Here” photo albums using card
stock and construction paper.

Theme: Last Supper
Scripture: Luke 22:19-20
Age Level: 6 to 12
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Activity Time: 20 to 30 minutes
Materials: Nine brown paper grocery bags numbered one through nine,
a bottle of grape juice, bread, popped popcorn, peanuts, cotton
candy, Tootsie Rolls candies, candy canes, marshmallows, cupcakes,
and jelly beans. You’ll also need the actual Lord’s Supper elements
your church uses.

This activity helps kids understand why Christians take the Lord’s
Supper and what Jesus meant when he said, “This do in remembrance
of me.”

Prepare nine numbered brown paper bags before class. In the first
sack, place a bottle of grape juice, a piece of bread, and any
other Lord’s Supper elements. Set aside the bag. Then place the
other items in separate bags and set them in a prominent location
in your classroom.

Read aloud the Scripture. Then ask for kids to reveal the
contents of each bag except the one you’ve set aside. Have kids
sample the food from the bags.
As each different food item is revealed, ask, “What does this food
remind you of? At what kind of events or places would you find this
food? When was the last time you had this food? Do you like this
food? Why or why not? Do you have any good memories associated with
this food? any bad memories?”

Reveal the bread and grape juice from the last bag and explain what
Jesus did with each item. Say, “Every time a Christian eats this
bread and wine, we remember Jesus.” Discuss the Lord’s Supper as it
relates to your church’s tradition.
