3 Ways to Make God Real for Kids

Bible -kidsToday, I
would like to continue conversation on the “Four Acts of Love.” If
you haven’t seen it yet, I encourage you to check out Group founder
Thom Schultz’s
blog. He’s doing a series based on his new book, and he discusses
things people today want to find in a church-what he calls the
“four acts of love.” Last week we looked at the act of genuine humility. Today we’ll talk about
another act of love: divine anticipation.

Thom has recently touched on this act of love on his
blog
.

“Research by the Barna Group reveals that only 44 percent of
people who attend church every week say they regularly experience
God at church,” according to Thom. “They’re not looking for the
deep theological trivia that seems to interest a lot of preachers.
They crave something rather simple. They want to be reassured that
God is real, that he is more than a historical figure, that he is
present today, and that he is active in the lives of people around
them.”

Do the kids in your ministry experience God? How do you help
kids discover that God is relevant to their lives? Here are three
things you can do to help your kids discover a personal connection
with God.

1. Cut the “story” lingo. We’ve talked about it
before.
A quick way to destroy kids’ faith in the Bible
is by referring
to it as a story. Executive editor of Children’s Ministry Magazine,
Christine Yount Jones has a lot to say on this topic. “Even
worse-I’ve heard many referring to the entire Bible as the ‘Big God
Story.’ Some in this camp even refer to God as the ‘main character’
in the ‘Big God Story.’ Yikes! We will reap what we sow! If we are
guilty of fictionalizing God’s Word, how will our children ever
believe in its truth?”

2. Ask for God sightings. Here’s a simple
exercise that has amazing results. Simply ask kids to share their
God sightings: anytime they’ve seen God at work. At first, kids
answers may sound a little silly…seeing God at work through their
pets. But make this a tradition. It helps train kids to be active
in looking for God. This is also a great activity to do with your
team of volunteers!

3. Pray. Let your kids pray. And don’t just
have them bow their heads as you pray. Do interactive prayers. It’s
not as hard as it may sound. Play some worship music and let kids
draw their prayers to God. Or take kids on a prayer walk around
your church. At the very least, allow kids a chance to speak to
God.

  1. I agree the Bible story is a never ending story, because you can read it again and again and again, seeking God in the Bible is to open your hearts acre and God will let the seed grow that's been planted by one of God's children, if you really seek God He will make sure you will find Him, but let your heart and eyes be open, because it can so easily be allocated as luck….. every day you stand up in the morning you breath the air, you hear the birds you see all around you that is just there, cared for not by us, but by our loving, caring heavenly Father, seek first ye the kingdom of God and all will be given to you….. stand firm in believe God love all you are very special in His eyes because He made you the way you have to serve Him in your daily life sometimes as a instrument to others and sometimes you must learn yourselves, always ask God to show you what you must learn from every experience in your life. Keep faith seek God in His word if you go to church prepare yourselves before the time ask God before the time to give you a word and don't ever stop praying. God lives and so does His word. Gods blessing to all.
