Preschool Father’s Day Craft: My Little Hands

My Little Hands Gift

You’ll need:

  • white construction paper
  • washable paint
  • paintbrushes
  • glue sticks
  • copies of My Little Hands (see below). Create versions with “grandpa” and “uncle” for other gifts.

Have preschoolers center and glue the poem on paper. Then paint kids’ palms so they can leave their handprints on each side of the poem.

My Little Hands

God gave me these hands so small,
To hug my Daddy, big and tall.
God gave me these hands so sweet,
For Daddy to hold down the street.
God gave little hands to me,
To wrap around my Daddy’s knee.
One way to show my Dad I care, Is to fold my hands and say a prayer.
I say, “God, please bless my dad,
‘Cause he’s the best a kid could have.”

Quick Tip to Prevent Paint Spills

You’ll need:

  • 1 baby food jar for each color
  • 1 inexpensive watercolor brush for each jar
  • a thin sponge approximately 1/4 inch thick
  • food coloring
  • water

Cut sponges to fit in the bottom of each jar. Add several drops of food coloring to each jar. Moisten the sponge with water without forming a puddle.

Have kids push their paintbrush against the sponge as they paint pictures. After kids finish painting, rinse the brushes and store the jars with the lids off.

The next time children paint, just dampen the sponge again. When the color fades, add a little more food coloring.
